Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of irregularities in the placement of teeth and disorders in the development of the jaws. Orthodontics is concerned with teeth not being in their normal places, disorders in the development of the jaws, narrow jaws, and having extra or missing teeth in the mouth. Various orthodontic devices are used in orthodontic treatments to provide the patient with a healthy and functional chewing system. Crooked teeth can cause disorders in chewing function, which in turn can result in abnormal wear on the teeth, excessive pressure on the supporting bone tissue surrounding the teeth, and joint problems.
